Closing Ceremony

Thursday evening marked the conclusion of the 16th IAHR-APD and 3rd IAHR-ISHS conference / symposium. In celebration of the many achievements the conference embodied, and to officially declare the conference closed, a formal closing ceremony was held in the WenTian building’s large auditorium (Room 108). Words of thanks were shared by committee members from the Executive Committee of IAHR Asia and Pacific Division, the International Committee of IAHR Section on Hydraulic Structures, and the Scientific Committee, and the Local Organizing Committee. After expressing his thanks to all the conference attendees and volunteers, Hohai University President C.K. Zhang, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, officially declared the conference closed.

Guests were then invited to attend a farewell banquet later that evening held at the Hua Dong Hotel. Dinner was celebrated in characteristic Chinese fashion: guests were able to enjoy many delicious and authentic Chinese dishes such as salted duck, fish, beef, soup, dumplings, and a delectable mixture of fruit and vegetables just to name a few. Two “Best Paper” awards were also awarded before dinner as well (one award for the best paper from a Chinese delegate, and one award for the best paper for someone from outside of China). The recipients of this prestigious award were (1) A three Dimensional Baroclinic Flow Numerical Model in Estuarine and Coastal Regions using Double Sigma Coordinates System(by TAO Jian-feng, ZHANG Chang-kuan) and (2)Influence of Near-bed Coherent Structures on the Entrainment of Bed Gravels (by Jianmin Ma, J. J. R. Williams). Although the closing ceremony and dinner banquet marked the end of the conference, delegates, guests, and volunteers were all in high-spirits. The past four days represented a milestone for the International Association of Hydraulic Engineering and Research, not to mention Hohai University. Comments from delegates and conference volunteers alike all pointed to one conclusion: that the 16th IAHR-APD and 3rd IAHR-ISHS was one of the most well-organized, well-planned, and successful conferences of IAHR history.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved in helping to make these past several days a smooth and memorable experience for all attendees.
